HYDRO INDUCTION POWER

MICRO HYDRO SYSTEMS

In choosing your hydro, the two main factors to consider are: the power required and the transmission distance. Most households running on alternative energy use Low Voltage hydros, which produce less than 500 Watts. If you require more than 500 Watts, have a long transmission line (500 feet - 5000 feet), and/or require more power, you can use High Voltage transmission hydros.

The higher your battery voltage, the further you can go with Low Voltage hydro (see Wire-Loss Chart).

SYSTEM EXAMPLE:

Site: Head: 200' - Flow: 27gpm - Transmission Distance: 700' - Pipe: 2'' - Battery Voltage: 24V

Low Voltage Cost: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Actual Output: . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Total Cost:

  • LV with 4 Nozzles: $1500 . . . . . . . . . .630W (=26A@24V)
  • Wire #2 AL 700': $280 . . . . . . . . . . - 110W (17.5% wire loss) = 520W . . . . . = $1780
  • or: Wire 1/0 AL 700': $375. . . . . . or - 70W (11% wire loss) = 560W . . . . . . . = $1875

High Voltage Cost: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Actual Output: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Total Cost:

  • HV600 w/ 4 Nozzles: $2700 . . . . . . . 485W (=20A@24V)
  • Wire 12/2 UF 700': . .$220 . . . . . . . - 57W (5% wire loss) = 428W . . . . . . . . = $2920
